Description
The wharf was probably the busiest spot on the whole island. The mail boat/ferry arrived a few times a day - there was always a rush of activity as the few hotel vehicles on the island made their way down to greet guests and haul their luggage, always a lot of people coming and going and greeting one another. Early in the morning and very late in the day, the lobstermen cast off in the skiffs to go out to their lobster boats and spend the day working on the surrounding waters collecting their catch in their own lobster pots. Interesting how all that activity was coordinated and timed so everyone got the job done. I could sit at The Island Inn on a lawn chair and watch, draw or photograph the days events.
